Our Location
In 2011 the Toronto Unschooling Conference was held at the
Ecology Retreat Centre
in Orangeville, Ontario, northwest of Toronto. After four years of moving to new venues
in search of one that enhanced the atmosphere of the conference, the last two years
at the ERC were wonderful! The staff was very helpful and responsive and the location
itself was terrific.
In the Hockley Valley near Orangeville, Ontario, it's nestled among the Niagara Escarpment
hills of Mono, adjacent to the beautiful Bruce Trail and the Nottawasaga River.
Surrounded by 200 acres of natural forest, with hills and valleys, open meadows and
spring fed streams, a pond and an endless network of trails where many bird species
abound within rich and abundant flora and fauna, the Centre is truly an unspoiled
area of natural beauty ideal for immersion in ideas and personal growth. It's the perfect
place for families to bond and unschooling ideas to take root!
And when you're not busy enjoying the conference talks, round tables, or funshops,
just step outside and enjoy the beautiful acres of trails, the open spaces to play,
the outdoor pool, or walk the labyrinth.
The staff at the ERC are really excited to be having us back! Last year, they worked hard with me
to meet our varied needs which is reflected in the different pricing schemes.
Along with the stunning surroundings we will be treated to delicious
meals from Saturday breakfast to Sunday lunch. They also graciously agreed
to delay closing the outdoor pool until after the conference in case we have a
warm early-September weekend.
The Ecology Retreat Centre is an incredibly beautiful property with an amazing
and welcoming community feel that I know will just sparkle when filled with wonderful unschooling
families! I look forward to meeting friends old and new.
